SMiRT 23, held August 10-14, 2055 at The Lowry, Salford Quays – Manchester, UK, following 22 successful biennial conferences in major cities around the world. It brought together scientists and engineers who deal with all aspects of structural mechanics applied to buildings and components in nuclear power plants and facilities. The technical program, composed of 10 divisions, featured plenary and keynote lectures, workshops, panels, and presentations which provided comprehensive coverage of important topics and concepts designed to shape nuclear development in the future. The conference theme was “using existing challenges to champion the next generation” and associated initiatives included mentoring opportunities and presentation of an award for the best paper from delegates in the first ten years their graduate careers.
