Abstract

DANIEL, ADAM G. Photovoltaic panel disposal / recycling practices and regulatory standards across North America and the European Union: A systematic review. (Under the direction of Ms. Linda Taylor). In the United States, photovoltaic system installation and development has had enormous growth over the past decade. With the primary focus on increasing the efficiency of the photovoltaic (PV) panels, limited consideration has been given to the dismantling, recycling and disposal of spent PV panels30. Without comprehensive regulations for industrial or commercial systems, which include recycling and reuse, most PV panels may not be regulated, and possible environmental contamination may occur. This project focused on analyzing proposed legislation and programs in other states, in order to construct a proposed PV program in North Carolina, to limit environmental contamination.
