N-acylpyridinium salt chemistry was used to synthesize 4 substituted (S)-nicotine derivatives. The intermediate dihydronicotines and resulting nicotine derivatives serve as potential pharmaceutical and pesticide targets as well as interesting synthetic intermediates. Other methodologies developed synthesize (s)-nicotine-N-oxide.en_US
